We adopted Punkin a few months after Reba died. She was a gorgeous Husky-mix, like Reba.

She was 2 when we found her at the Humane Society. She'd had a rough start to her life. Punkin had been living outside in a crate most of her life, and when she was found, she was a brown dog. Turned out, that brown was filth, dirt and waste from living in a crate. When they rescued her and took her to bathe her, she was actually a spectacular blond/white dog with a beautiful full fluffy tail.

We fell in love and took her home. She was happy but nervous in her new surroundings. She'd never had a life like that before. For nearly 16 more years, we played with her, hugged her, walked her and let her become friends with our kitten, who came to us in 2006. They grew together, challenged each other, and had a peaceful and loving co-existence. Tigger and her became friends.

Punkin and I spent lots of time together after the kids all evenutally moved out. We were buddies. I did all I could for her when she developed arthritis. We struggled along together, since I had it too. Our years together were loving and quiet. We depended on each other, and were each other's best pal.
When she started failing, I was scared and heartsick. I did my best, but one day in October, she told me she was tired, and I had to let her go. Punkin was nearly 18 years old, and my life is lonelier without her by my side each day.

I whispered in her ear my love and goodbyes at the end, and I know she knew and she loved me back. She was ready, but I was not.
Punkin's always in my heart.
